Thai Chile Chicken Salad
Made an awesome dish tonight!  Pretty proud of it if I do say so.  If you know me well, you know that I LOVE to stir-fry.  Problem being, I’ve been making changes in my diet lately, one of which is cutting down and/or eliminating starchy carbs as much as possible — which means rice.   So, I’ve been trying to think of ways that I can include stir-fry type of dishes, without the...

Dissecting my diet
My trainer mentioned that he’d like to see some daily caloric intake numbers for me, so I began jotting stuff down this morning.  Here is what I’ve gathered thus far. Target weight of 250 lbs. 3x week workout (at least) 250 x 12 = 3000 calorie/day (Alan Aragon, M.S. formula - base multiplier of 10 for 1 day/week and add 1 for each additional day) 250g protein (1000 calories) /...

Modified Upper Body / Core workout →
In retrospect, I feel like perhaps I didn’t work hard enough tonight.  Even with the knee hurting.  I’ll be so glad when I can put that behind me and get after this more.  It’s frustrating to hurt myself at the very beginning and have it hampered like this.  I’m not exactly known for my patience, after all.

Road Rage
To the idiot honking at me in the QT parking lot this morning: I hope you have a nice day. My full-size truck does not turn as tightly or as nimbly as your small sedan, so I can’t pull out in front of traffic with the same disregard for everyone that you clearly do. Consider yourself fortunate that I have grown benevolent in my mid-age.  In past years, your of show of bravado and...

Harder and harder
Fresh, crisp Oregon air again at last! Becoming more and more difficult to want to return to Arizona with each visit.

Investing in self
Once upon a time, I was pretty into fitness.  From a very young age, I have very fond memories of getting to visit my older brothers (which my sister and I hardly ever saw for various reasons, but adored every chance we got to) and going through their old issues of the predecessors of “Muscle & Fitness” magazine.  I marveled at these gods of strength and fitness.  Arnold,...

So I made a couple of short RIFT videos
Nothing major, just recorded a bit of my daily clears of the Hammerknell Chronicle, trying to get the Murdantix mount to drop.

Man am I sore
Best idea ever, seriously. For those that don’t know, I’ve joined a gym again — Lifetime Fitness — over here in Tempe, Arizona.  It is kind of, sort of between me and work with where I currently live (though I have plans of moving closer to it most likely — or closer to the Gilbert location).  When I first pondered upon which day I would take my initial poke at the...

Designers vs Coding
viafrank: “Do I need to know how to code?” is a question that comes up with sure-fire consistency in design circles. I’ve seen it asked by so many, from uncertain design students in classrooms worried about their chances of landing a job, to seasoned professionals at conferences seeing their pool of print projects slowly evaporate. The question is being asked with even greater frequency as of...

Testing ScribeFire
Trying out the ScribeFire plugin for Google Chrome.  If this works well enough, perhaps it will enable me to do more frequent updating here.

What I want to be when I grow up
A concept artist @ ArenaNet.  Seriously. ArenaNet recently showcased a bunch of their concept art for their upcoming game, Guild Wars 2, at GDC 2010 (game developer’s conference).  They’ve now released this video in three parts on YouTube.  I’ve dreamed of doing this type of art since I was a very young child, drawing hot rods and Colonial Vipers in Mr. Lewis’ class with...

Health Care reform in America
Namaste friends! Health care reform.  Quite a hot and potentially volatile subject to discuss these past few days, given the passing of bill H.R. 4872.  There are some strong feelings on this matter, both for and against.  People have concerns about a great number of things related to this reform, and deservedly so.  This is a big step for us as a nation. My intent of posting here is to provide...

The art of fighting without fighting
Came across an interesting article today, via Mohammad Haque (or Hawk - artist of AppleGeeks and one of my favorite creative people on the web). Ask Mr. Artist Guy: Should An Illustrator Work In Multiple Styles? This is especially poignant for me.  I struggle mightily with my illustrative “style”.  I will often times set out to purposely try and do an illustration or sketch in a...

Some new reads and inspiration
I have set a goal for myself to try and finish one complete sketch per week.  Along these lines, I picked up some new motivation tonight at Barnes & Noble. What?!  But it was so conveniently located near the Apple Store!  ;)

Out with the old
Funny story.  The Bluetooth headset that I’ve had for some time now (Aliph Jawbone) was on it’s last chip for a while.  The rubber bit on the ear piece has been frayed, cracked and coming off and the plastic cap on the end had become detached, making it excessively difficult to charge.  Being the frugal person I am though, when it comes to material items such as this, electrical tape...

Feeding the urge
The time seems right to fire up a blog page again.  While Facebook serves it’s niche of a convenient way to share the happenings and occurrences in your life with people, it doesn’t really provide the type of platform that I prefer for expression and discussion.  Plus, I’m still not to sure I’m thrilled with the terms of use that Facebook asserts, essentially claiming all...
